What Electrical Safety Testing
Basically involves
Each electrical
item is unplugged and checked for deterioration, damage and compliance
with Western Australian electrical regulations. Test instruments are then
used to check that electrical insulation, earth continuity and polarity of
connections meet regulatory standards. Items that pass inspection are
tagged with a label showing the date of test, license number and initials
of the test technician and a retest date. They are then returned to service.
If the item
fails, it has an "Danger" label attached and is returned to the
workplace supervisor for them to arrange repair or disposal.
A record is kept
of the items tested and a written report can be provided to assist with
inventory control. The test record will also save time on subsequent tests,
provided that the inventory of items doesn't change too much between
tests.
Note:
Documentation of Electrical Safety Testing is mandatory in some cases but
should always be retained as evidence of the work being carried out to the
proper standards.
